After completing a Science Degree in Chemistry and Biology from Saint Mary’s University, Jessica pursued an Applied Human Nutrition Degree in Dietetics at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax and started practicing as a Dietitian in 2017. She started a private practice, counseling clients and delivering information via e-counseling. This medium
of counseling enables clients to receive information from a location convenient for them. Although she has a wide spectrum of education in nutrition, Jessica's focus is weight management and overall healthy eating. Jessica’s practice is client centered which enables her to deliver a counseling style and meal planning that is best suited for her clients.

Elizabeth is a food enthusiast, originally from Sydney, NS, is a graduate of the NSCC culinary arts program, and is Acadia Alumni. She currently works as the Sous Chef and Nutrition lead at Brigadoon Village, a non-profit recreational facility for children and youth living with health conditions or other life challenges. This position challenges her to create dishes and programming that meets the needs of a diverse group of kids. Howard is a Registered Dietitian, Chef, and Certified Foodservice Manager who co-owns, with his wife Wendy Rodda, Valley Flaxflour Ltd. located in Middleton, NS. As corporate General Manager, Howard oversees the general functioning of the business, lead recipe and product development activities, and manage marketing and sales.
 

For over 20 years Howard has been supporting the use of flax as a component of Valley Flaxflour Ltd's proprietary natural bowel care program “as easy as eating” in long term care facilities, health clinics and hospitals throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario. Erika works as the Outpatient Dietitian at Western Kings Memorial Health Centre in Berwick where she helps counsel and support patients in chronic disease management, prevention, and over all health optimization with all ages. In this role she also works with the community, running health programs. As well, she is the dietitian at the Valley Regional Hospital Hip and Knee Clinic where she counsels patients individually and facilitates the PreHab program which is a pre-surgical education and exercise program.

Cathy has been a dietitian for 27 years working in a variety of roles including clinical, private practice, education and management. She obtained her degree from St. FX and completed a graduate internship at the Brantford General Hospital. Cathy started working at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home 20 years ago doing the clinical consulting 4 hrs/wk. The role evolved over the years and she now manages Support Services as well. She has worked and volunteered with NSDA for many years in a variety of roles, including Registrar and on the Continuing Competence Committee. Cathy has chaired the NS Food & Environmental Service Workers Course Advisory Committee and is a Zone 1 rep on the NS Dietitians’ Continuing Care Action Group. Cathy lives in the beautiful Annapolis Valley with her husband, two boys, a
dog and a cat. Whether its camping, hiking, swimming, soccer, science experiments in the kitchen or enjoying a movie together, spending time with her family is a favourite thing to do.

Stacey currently works out the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville as the Patient Flow Manager for the Annapolis Valley with the Nova Scotia Health Authority. In her role Stacey provides direction and oversight for a diverse team of allied health care professionals who are responsible for facilitating efficient and timely access to inpatient beds both within and out of three Annapolis Valley hospitals. Stacey is also Co-Chair of Emerging Health Leaders Nova Scotia and previously sat on the Board of Directors for the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association as Registrar and chair of the registration committee from 2010 - 2015. She is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Nutrition at Mount Saint Vincent University where she also received her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition with honors in 2009.

Jennifer is the executive manager of the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association (NSDA), the provincial dietetic regulatory body. She has been in this role since 2007 and her role involves: competency development, legislative change, board governance, organizational management, project management, and the core functions associated with professional regulation. Prior to this, she practiced as a clinical and community dietitian in several provinces in a variety of practice settings, which included an outpatient department and small hospital, long-term care facilities, industry, home care, private practice, public health, and telehealth. Her past dietetic experience has been especially relevant to the development of practice standards, competencies, and most recently, NSDA’s jurisprudence e-learning module. Jennifer is currently completing her Masters of Science in Applied Human Nutrition program at MSVU. Her thesis relates to professional ethics and she draws on her experiences in the writing of an autoethnography.

I have practiced dietetics for over 14 years and I have worked in various roles and places.
I worked with Loblaw's as a Grocery Store Dietitian for 5 years. I worked with the IWK Health Center on the Rehab and Brain Injury Response Teams. I have experience with Ketogenic diets and pediatric clinical nutrition. Currently I support the Provincial Hospitals' Food and Nutrition Services. Over 18 facilities use Vision Software to manage the departments, including inventory management, patient food service and clinical nutrition support. I have been in this role for 6 years; I love the challenge of implementing technology to support food and nutrition services and I enjoy working with fellow dietitians and managing projects.

Deidre Burns is an Inpatient Dietitian at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, and Chair of the Dietitian's of Canada Dysphagia Assessment and Treatment Network. Deidre acquired her Nutrition degree at Acadia and completed her internship at the QEII in Halifax. She has participated in many Dysphagia courses including "Dysphagia Assessment and Management in the Acute Care Setting" (NSH&S), "The Other Side of the Spoon" (Peter Lam), Dysphagia Intensive (DC, CASLP & CAOT). She also attends the Dietitians of Canada Conference each year. Deidre has been a guest speaker re: Dysphagia for many organizations including the Gerontology Network, Acadia University and the Nova Scotia Continuing Care Network.

I have been a dietitian since 1996 and have enjoyed working in Clinical Pediatrics, Public Health, Primary Health Care and Academia. In my current position as the Dieitians of Canada, Regional Executive Director for the Atlantic Provinces, I have the opportunity to work with dietitians from across the 4 Atlantic Provinces to promote our profession and advocate for advancing health through food and nutrition. I love having the opportunity to see the diversity of roles that professional dietitians are in and the dedication and passion they have for the profession.  I completed a BSc at St FX, a dietetic internship at the Toronto Hospital and a MSc at Mount Saint Vincent University.
