I love what I do.  I am always thrilled to empower and connect with people.  I have been practicing as a Dietitian since 1999, teaching and coaching thousands of people on how to lead a healthier lifestyle and adjust their eating plan to achieve their goals.

I was born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.  I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition from St. FX in 1998 and proceeded to complete a dietetic internship program at Vancouver General Hospital in BC.  I have been working with Sobeys as a community Dietitian since 2001 offering community nutrition sessions and marketing our amazing in-store services.

A true passion of mine is media.  I offer regular segments on CTV Morning Live, covering the hot nutrition topic of the day, or demonstrating a simple but healthy recipe.  I love receiving emails from viewers that they found my tips helpful or have incorporated my recipes into their favourites.  I think that is what all of us Dietitians have in common – we are a caring bunch, looking to connect with people and help them lead a better life.  You can’t get a better gig than that!

Brittany completed her BSc. Applied Human Nutrition with distinction from Mount Saint Vincent University and her Dietetic Internship with Nova Scotia Health Authority. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, her interest in nutrition began while playing competitive sports and noticing the difference in performance when choosing foods that made her feel her best. From there she has worked in several areas of dietetics including community, clinical, health promotion and industry.  She has a passion for food, nutrition, activity and taking a holistic approach to help those looking to make positive nutrition changes and find what works best for them.

She takes a non-diet approach and specializes in plant based diets as well as gut health.  This came alongside the increasing amount of research linking poor gut health and an imbalanced micro-biome with not just digestive symptoms but many diseases and disorders in the body including autoimmune issues, allergies, sensitivities, brain fog, mental health, fatigue and more.  A well planned plant based diet is what helps her to thrive and she enjoys sharing those practices with those who are interested in incorporating more plant based options in their diet.

Lesley believes that every body has the ability to heal and thrive.

It is my mission to give you the tools to engage in your personal self-care and to be your detective and educator along the way to support you in uncovering the root cause of your health concerns. Functional nutrition understands the whole person, addresses the terrain from which your signs, symptoms or diagnosis manifested and teaches you how to take back control of your health.

My interest in functional nutrition comes from my own struggle to heal my digestive system to improve hormonal health. I began to truly understand that there is more to nutritional health than generic recommendations and quick fixes. Every body is different and effective preventative health care needs to address you as a unique individual in its approach to healing.

After working for a few years in Edmonton in clinical nutrition research and counselling teenagers with fatty liver, I am excited to return to my home of Halifax to share a preventative health approach that I know will improve lives within the community. I have a special interest in digestive and women's health, but welcome individuals from all walks of life.

I hold a BA from Dalhousie University, a diploma from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy (registered with MTANS), and in 2016 graduated with a BSc in Applied Human Nutrition from Mount Saint Vincent University and am registered with the Nova Scotia Dietetics Association. Recently (May 2018) I completed Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT) with Andrea Lieberstein and Jean Kristeller, and integrate a mindful approach to my counselling.I practice as a Massage Therapist and Nutritionist and am accepting new clients.

Food choices and behaviours are deeply personal and often the reasons for why are unknown. There is no one perfect answer to our nutrition needs; no one diet that will solve it all, we are all unique and our diet needs to reflect this uniqueness. My approach to nutrition counselling reflects my approach to massage therapy, focusing more on the “why” than the “what”. Why are you eating what you’re eating – is it serving you? Once the why is envisioned, a plan for change can evolve, if change is needed. I am an empathetic and candid facilitator, working with my clients to support them as they manifest change. I am a believer of the exceptional benefits of movement for our mind and body, and integrate walking into appointment times - we will walk together, talk, and find your path.

I have been interested in food and health for most of my life and feel so fortunate to have a career in nutrition. I graduated from St. F. X. U. and completed an internship at the Victoria General Hospital. A six month backpacking trip around Europe added to my love of preparing and eating real, whole food. My first dietitian job was in community hospital in Belfast, Maine. I then worked as a dietitian in London, Ontario. After 12 years away I was so happy to move my family back to beautiful Nova Scotia. Private Practice and writing nutrition articles kept me current and also gave me flexibility to be home with my growing boys. Now I am excited to be with Atlantic Superstore where I conduct grocery store tours, cooking demos and nutrition coaching sessions. My focus is to bring people back to real, wholesome food and to inspire habits such as meal planning, healthy food preparation and mindful eating.
