In May, 2005, Heather received a Bachelor of Science from Saint Mary's University with a Major in Biology and a Minor in Psychology. She then continued her studies at Mount Saint Vincent University, where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Applied Human Nutrition (with integrated internship). Since 2009, Heather has worked part-time as a Clinical Dietitian with the Cumberland Health Authority.  In 2010 she opened her private practice “Healthy Bites Nutrition” in Truro, where she provides individual and group nutrition education to community members.  Heather’s goal is to help people live healthy “one bite at a time”.

Terry is the in-store Dietitian for Atlantic Superstore in Truro, New Glasgow, Antigonish and Port Hawkesbury. Like many of her colleagues, I have a great love for food. As an avid baker and home cook, Terry thoroughly enjoys experimenting with new recipes to create meals and snacks that are both nutritious and delicious. Terry values finding a balance between healthy choices, tasty treats and busy everyday life and she is eager to help you find the balance in yours.

After completing a Science Degree in Chemistry and Biology from Saint Mary’s University, Jessica pursued an Applied Human Nutrition Degree in Dietetics at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax and started practicing as a Dietitian in 2017. She started a private practice, counseling clients and delivering information via e-counseling. This medium
of counseling enables clients to receive information from a location convenient for them. Although she has a wide spectrum of education in nutrition, Jessica's focus is weight management and overall healthy eating. Jessica’s practice is client centered which enables her to deliver a counseling style and meal planning that is best suited for her clients.

 

Jessica is also a volunteer member for the continuing competency program (CCP) committee at the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association (NSDA) and an active member of NS Dietitians for Health Insurance Coverage (NSDHIC).

Brittany Hartling, RD

Brittany is a Registered Dietitian who received a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition with Integrated Dietetic Internship from St. Francis Xavier University. Brittany has experience working in acute care, long term care and within the community. With a background in healthcare her professional focus is nutrition and its many impacts on health; both positive and negative. She truly believes that food is medicine and enjoys helping others improve their health and wellbeing with the power of nutrition. Brittany loves working with people of all ages and backgrounds, and understands that healthy eating can be challenging, as there is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition. She has a flexible and supportive approach when helping others achieve their health and wellness goals. 

Brittany currently volunteers with DNNS where her role is the Manager/Editor of the DNNS Spotlight column. She is currently seeking work opportunities and other volunteer opportunities.

I have practiced dietetics for over 14 years and I have worked in various roles and places.
I worked with Loblaw's as a Grocery Store Dietitian for 5 years. I worked with the IWK Health Center on the Rehab and Brain Injury Response Teams. I have experience with Ketogenic diets and pediatric clinical nutrition. Currently I support the Provincial Hospitals' Food and Nutrition Services. Over 18 facilities use Vision Software to manage the departments, including inventory management, patient food service and clinical nutrition support. I have been in this role for 6 years; I love the challenge of implementing technology to support food and nutrition services and I enjoy working with fellow dietitians and managing projects.

Jennifer Garus, PDt

Jennifer is the executive manager of the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association (NSDA), the provincial dietetic regulatory body. She has been in this role since 2007 and her role involves: competency development, legislative change, board governance, organizational management, project management, and the core functions associated with professional regulation. Prior to this, she practiced as a clinical and community dietitian in several provinces in a variety of practice settings, which included an outpatient department and small hospital, long-term care facilities, industry, home care, private practice, public health, and telehealth. Her past dietetic experience has been especially relevant to the development of practice standards, competencies, and most recently, NSDA’s jurisprudence e-learning module. Jennifer is currently completing her Masters of Science in Applied Human Nutrition program at MSVU. Her thesis relates to professional ethics and she draws on her experiences in the writing of an autoethnography.

Lindsay completed her BSc in Human Nutrition at StFX University and graduate dietetic internship with Capital Health. After graduation, she spent about two years in BC working in hospital foodservice management before returning home to NS to take a Public Health Nutritionist position and finish her Masters of Applied Human Nutrition at MSVU. Lindsay just celebrated my 11th anniversary as a Public Health Nutritionist in Pictou County.

Originally from the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Alana graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, and went on to complete the Integrated Dietetic Internship. After successful completion of this program, Alana went on to work as a diabetes educator in a northern Ontario community called Moose Factory where she served the Cree communities along the west coast of the James Bay. Her love of her family and home province brought her back to Nova Scotia. Through her work at Sobeys she hopes to share her passion for food and health by proving healthy food can also be delicious. Working in a grocery store setting really allows her to translate confusing nutrition information into practical messages for her clients!

Sarah has been practicing as a Dietitian in Truro since 2007. She completed my Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at St. FX University and proceeded to complete an Integrated Dietetic Internship. Her current role mainly includes nutrition counseling for individuals living with diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity across the lifespan; however, she also see clients for various other conditions requiring nutrition intervention. What Sarah enjoys most about her career is helping others make healthy eating less complicated! Sarah loves not only helping people learn to enjoy foods that can improve their health, but also, how all foods can fit into a healthful way of eating.
